Climate

12 04 2008

A check for understanding: Ask your child why the earth has different climates, why the equator is hot and the Poles are not.  I hope they will now tell you something about direct and indirect sunlight.  They shouldn’t say “because the equator is closer to the sun.” (a most common misconception). Why the equator is hot and the poles are not.

A new unit of study

2 04 2008

images.jpegOn Wednesday 4/3/08 we will begin our study of the atmosphere. In addition to some fun activities we will do in class, including making a cloud in a jar and hot air balloons. Students will also be making weather notebooks. Each day students will add notes and drawings to their notebooks. The notes diagrams and drawings will each explain something about the atmosphere. At the end of this unit of study these notebooks will serve as great study guides for the unit’s final assessment.
