Mr. Santoro - Math

The class has finished their work on proportional reasoning. Their new skills were applied to a worksheet given before the start oof the unit as a pre-test, and it was obvious the students had learned a great deal. This knowledge will be put to good use on the MEAs!
The study of matthematics is really all about patterns. Patterns show up in real life all of the time, and if we can model those patterns with mathematics, then we can make sense and predictions of the world around us. In order to properly model these patterns the students need to be proficient with integer arithmetic, so we’re reviewing that first. The students will write algebraic expressions and equations to find patterns and make predictions.
Here’s a warning for those of you too aware of passing time, and our aging kids. Soon students may come home needing to know your age (don’t be offended) to write an algebraic equation that answers a riddle. You’ll hear more about this in the weeks to come.
We are also very fortunate to have the use of a wonderful computerized textbook called AGILE Mind. Most of the students are enjoying the work with AGILE Mind. They all have their own logins and passwords and can do work from any internet connection. This is especially handy for those who want to pull ahead and investigate more algebra, and for those who need to be reminded of some math work from a year or two ago.
If you want to get more help for your child on AGILE Mind I can work with you. Just drop me an e-mail.
