Do you think protesting is risky? Why or why not?

Isaac on 04 Feb 2008 at 9:11 am #
i don’t think dat people should ‘t protest i am saying that u should protest any time u wnt
Jesse L-N on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:04 am #
protesting has to be legal because every person in the U.S.A. gets the freedom of assembly.
Evan P. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:05 am #
People should be able to protest, and are able, because they are just expressing themselves. Also those police in Austin might have been paid by AISD…….. just throwing that out there.
Aidan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:05 am #
I think that protesting should not be risky, but some adults often try to control us to much and make it risky.
jordan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:06 am #
i think people should protest for what they believe in and if you brlieve in something you should fight for it
Sudi A. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:09 am #
Yes! I think protesting is risky because I’ve done it before and it felt like people wanted as to stop, but we still did it and other people were cheering us on.
Carley D. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:13 am #
i think that it is risky to protest because you could get hurt and people can get arrested but i think that people should stand up for what they beleive in
Jesse L-N on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:14 am #
protesting should be as safe as buying milk but un fortunatly it is not.
Katharine on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:15 am #
i think that protesting is ok, but you could get hurt in it. other than that in think it is great for you because it is expressing your belifes.
Aidan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:15 am #
yeah i have been protesting before but now i forgot what it was for it was fun
Carley D. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:16 am #
i agree with katharine.
jordan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:17 am #
I don’t think protesting is risk because you are just fight what you want to fight for because some people like to change things to inprove it but things are good just the way the are.
Evan P. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:17 am #
The only reason it is risky to protest is because police tear gas crowds and put them under arrest when they are not supposed to. If America fixed its police system we wouldn’t have this problem.
Aidan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:17 am #
has anyone else been protesting???
Boutavee K on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:18 am #
I think protesting is risky because some people don’t want you to and they might tell you to get lost and do something else. People should protest in what they believe in!
Bobby L-E on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:18 am #
People should be able to protest for what they want.
Carley D. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:19 am #
jesse i think that maby it should more dangerous then that.
Paloma S. on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:20 am #
I think protesting is risky because you might get in trouble but at the same time it’s good because you can get your way. That is always better than keeping your mouth shut and getting nothing.
:p
kiril on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:20 am #
they should have been in school but they had a right to protest
Phearom S on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:22 am #
I think that when you or someone is protesting, they are fighting in what they believe in. They don’t protest because they think it’s fun. (;
Kiernan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:22 am #
I agree with Jordan. People should be able to protest when they want to. The people who try and stop protest are the same people that ban books, people that over protect thier children.
P.s. yes I have protested before.
Jesse L-N on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:23 am #
everyone is saying the same thing “protest for what ever you want” we get it say something different.
Aidan on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:25 am #
does maine have that rule where you cant have more than 500 people???:);)
Olivia on 05 Feb 2008 at 11:26 am #
I think that protesting is expressing what you feel is right. You should never feel like you should keep all your thoughts inside.
Evan G. on 05 Feb 2008 at 12:15 pm #
idk
Jake on 05 Feb 2008 at 12:16 pm #
protesting is freedom of speech!!!!!!!!!!
Ava on 05 Feb 2008 at 12:18 pm #
you should be able to protest, but that isn’t why they were arrested. they were arrested for skipping school to protest, which is weird. i think if you’re going to arrest someone you have to have a good reason for it, and not just protesting, which is allowed in the constitution anyway, and they were only skipping school for something they believed in, which is worth skipping school for anyway.
protesting can be risky sometimes, but mostly only when adults are of an other opinion and don’t want to hear about it because they are afraid they will lose.
skull on 05 Feb 2008 at 12:18 pm #
you should be able to protest about anything you want because it is your opinion and you should be able to express that opinion. There is nothing wrong with your opinion and there is nothing wrong with expressing that opinion, so people shouldn’t be arrested for expressing that opinion.
jasmine on 05 Feb 2008 at 12:19 pm #
I think protesting is risky because, like in the article the boys got arrested because they were protesting against putting there school into two schools.
IRock! on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:51 pm #
The arrest was WRONG!
Shannon H. on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:52 pm #
Wussup. Thats insane i dont get why kids are arrested for only brushing curfew limits and protesting. What were they protesting for!?
Margaret on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:53 pm #
I have never protested, but if I ever do, it should be safe. I wonder what it would be like to protest…
nat on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:53 pm #
what the heck is a daytime curfew ordinance? whatever it is it sounds ridiculous! where is KEALING middle school? protesting should not be a crime and it should be safe. what is wrong with people
No-ones girl on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:54 pm #
Boo!!thats so silly to arrest a minor for breaking curfew.
Isabel H. on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:54 pm #
i think that you should be able to protest on whatever you want and whenever you want
Me2 on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:55 pm #
I agree! The students were just going out and exercising their rights!
Margaret on 05 Feb 2008 at 1:55 pm #
Yeah, Nat.
nat on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:00 pm #

nat on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:02 pm #

Andrew on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:03 pm #
I don’t see how it’s risky. I mean, whats risky about geting to gether and just……well………protesting?
Livie on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:03 pm #
protesting is risky but it can be worth it if its for something you belive in. :]
Isabel H. on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:04 pm #

Joe.K on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:04 pm #

Yes protest is risky but don’t let that stop you it can always pay of good.
Livie on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:06 pm #
I feel that arresting those kids was wrong. Everyone has freedom of assembly!!!!
Andrew on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:07 pm #
How is it risky?
Joe.K on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:08 pm #
idk
Margaret on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:08 pm #
Why are there even curfews at all?!?! It is so incredibly stupid! It doesn’t even do anything good to have a curfew.
Andrew on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:10 pm #
I think theres a cerfew because there worid about kids safty.
Fatuma on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:10 pm #
I agree it is very risky
Joe.K on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:11 pm #
kid saftey ?if you get arrested?
Margaret on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:11 pm #
Protesting might be a little risky because there are some policemen that don’t like protesters and abuse their power to arrest them and do other bad things.
fatuma on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:11 pm #
ya you have the right 2
Aliyah on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:12 pm #
i’m so happy that portland laws as Austin Teaxs.
nat on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:12 pm #
t-e-x-a-s gocernment people are really weird
rossm on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:13 pm #
I just looked up curfews in Maine. Some towns have them because they have problems with late-night vandalism and car break-ins.
Isabel H. on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:13 pm #
i don’t think that protesting is risky because you have the right to do it according to amendment I of the constitution. you have even more the right to protest because the constitution is supposed to be the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND according to article VI.
Andrew on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:13 pm #
yeah, but you can do what thos guys did and go to court with it because of the fist amendment thing.
abdi h. on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:14 pm #
I agree with isaak because you should not tell people that they should not protest - they can protest any time they want.
Joe.K on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:14 pm #
isabels right!
Andrew on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:15 pm #
I mean first amendment.
Livie on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:16 pm #
Andrew,Protesting is risky because if it gets to wild the police will come and you could get charged for something minor or stupid. Also MOST police dont like protesters soo some times they charge people unfairly….
emily on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:16 pm #
geting arrested is the not on my list to do. Who would want to get arrested.
Hallie A. on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:16 pm #
I think that protesting can be risky but…EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO PROTEST FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN! I think that people should stand up for what they believe in, even if it IS risky, because its what they believe in!
alex on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:17 pm #
i think it is okay to protest!$
nat on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:17 pm #

Margaret on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:18 pm #
Me too, Fatuma, but what if Portland were to suddenly get a curfew law? What would happen then?!
Aliyah on 05 Feb 2008 at 2:18 pm #
