Principals/Guidance Luncheon

This past Friday (September 28,2007) PATHS hosted a sending school Principals/Guidance Counselor informational luncheon.  Twenty-nine (29) representatives attended the event which was held in the Culinary Concepts “Grade A Cafe”.   PATHS teachers Val Green, Joe Robinson, Cathy Dunn and John Carmichael gave a brief overview of each program in the four PATHS clusters.  Student seats still available in several PATHS programs were highlighted in order to encourage Guidance Counselors to fill those slots on a first come-first served basis.

The updated Student Enrollment process was covered by Assistant Director Brian Britting with an accompanying handout packet.  Mr. Britting is the contact person at PATHS for all of the sending schools.

John Marcigliano gave a brief overview of the new and proposed programs at PATHS.  including:   Telecom: Voice/Data/Video [September 2007],  Personal Support Specialist (PSS) [semester class Jan. 2008],  Pre-Engineering [semester class in Jan. 2008], possible 9th – 10th grade “pre-voc” class (September 2008) and possible Applied Geometry [semester class September 2008].

Additional topics discussed at the working luncheon included: literacy and numeracy support for PATHS students, Articulation Agreements and Dual Enrollments that PATHS programs have with post-secondary institutions.  A series of questions and answers followed.  The meeting adjourned with an invitation for any Guidance Counselors to visit any PATHS classes (or teachers) which were still in session.  Questions?  Call John Marcigliano at PATHS (874-8165) or: marcij@portlandschools.org
