Portland Teachers Plan Service Learning Projects
Six teachers from the Portland Public Schools participated in a recent, two-day service learning conference to find out how they could involve their classes in community projects. They met with representatives from Goodwill Industries, Dress for Success, Maine Audubon Society, Andover College and Cultivating Community.
Teachers learned the fundamentals of service-learning and tools for implementing it in the classroom. They all came away with project ideas and community resources to share with their students in the fall. The conference, held August 17 and 18, was led by members of the Service-Learning Leadership Team with support from the Portland Partnership and funding from L.L. Bean.
