Next Blog Assignment:Conflict
Here is the next literary term the we will be studying, it’s definition, and the next assignment -be sure to read all the directions!
CONFLICT: The struggle between the protagonist and the antagonist.
Person vs. Person (or group):A character’s struggle with another character, thing, or group.
Person vs. Natural World or Environment: A character’s struggle with an outside force, such as “Mother Nature,” or the environment in which they live.
Person vs. Self: A character’s struggle to make a decision, or act in a way, that goes against their beliefs, values, and/or religion.
For this assignment
1. Name the specific type of conflict from the list above in the book you are reading. (Ten points off if you do not do this!!!)
2. Explain why this conflict fits into the category you chose.
3. Tell me about the conflict you chose. Make sure to include who/what is involved.
Example of Conflict:I am reading Caves of Steel, by Isaac Asimov. In this novel, the main character Lije is a police officer that is forced to collaborate with a robot. Lije is prejudice against robots but is also very dedicated to his job. This results in a Person and Self Conflict. Lije struggles with the desire to do his job and his fear/hate of robots. This internal conflict causes him to struggle with certain decisions throughout the novel. During their investigation, Lije is torn between justice and loyalty to humanity.
