HOW MANY COMPOSTERS DO WE NEED TO COMPOST OUR LUNCH WASTE?

Eighth grade students have been measuring the amount of vegetable, fruit, and bread waste thrown away by students at the end of lunch each day in order to calculate the number of composters needed for the school’s waste. Each 8th grade house measured the mass (weight) of vegetable, fruit, and bread scraps for 5 days. This data will be averaged together to identify the approximate average mass of organic matter thrown away at lunch by the school each day. The composters will not only provide soil for plants we will be growing but they prevent a large amount of waste from ending up in landfills or in incinerators.
