Class Expectations

The Class Pledge

I pledge to do my very best,
On classwork, quizzes, and every test.

I will pay attention in every class,
So all my subjects I can pass.

Respectful, honest, and helpful I will be,
When no one else is watching–it is up to me!

I am lovable and capable!

Classroom Rules

BEHAVE PROPERLY
BE RESPECTFUL
BE HONEST
BE PREPARED
BE RESPONSIBLE

We talked about what these rules mean, and the students understand that many specific rules are standard and covered by the five broad rules.

All students participate in a behavior program. They are recognized when “caught in the act” of doing a good deed such as being especially helpful, polite, considerate, thoughtful, and kind or when they exhibit exceptional work habits and behavior. Names are written on “Do-Gooder” slips which go into a jar. At the end of the week ten names are drawn, and those students choose a prize from our prize box. We also give out monthly paper awards to students who consistently turn in homework on time and are role models for appropriate behavior. Bimonthly group rewards are chosen by the students who receive awards for the two months. Every two months, all students start with clean slates.

When a child does not follow the basic rules, a warning is given and/or a “Time-Out” is used. If a child receives three “Time-Outs” during the course of a day, parents are notified. Behaviors which disrupt class or are potentially dangerous to the child or others incur consequences which follow school policy, and a letter to parents is automatically sent home. Children who consistently have difficulty following the rules receive consequences appropriate to the classroom setting, and we develop individual plans to aid them in making better choices.

Following class rules, displaying positive attitudes, and demonstrating successful work habits will help provide our classroom with an enjoyable learning environment for all. Thanks for your understanding and support! We hope your child has a great year in Fourth Grade!

HOMEWORK POLICY

NEATNESS IN ALL WORK IS EXPECTED
WORK IS REDONE UNTIL SATISFACTORY (BASED ON ABILITY)
ALL PAPERS INCLUDE FIRST AND LAST NAME AND DATE
DAILY WORK IS COMPLETED ON THE DAY ASSIGNED
(IF NOT POSSIBLE, WORK IS PASSED IN THE FOLLOWING DAY)
LONG TERM ASSIGNMENTS ARE COMPLETED AND PASSED IN
ACCORDING TO DUE DATES

Homework is given regularly Monday through Thursday. On Friday, students complete a “Week in Review”form which must be signed by parents and returned the following Monday. We make sure assignments are appropriate for the 45-60 minutes per night which should be set aside. Weekends will usually be reserved for unfinished work and long term reports and/or research.

Homework provides reinforcement and a review of skills being taught in class, and when given as a long term assignment allows for creativity to be explored and developed. (You will be notified when long term assignments are presented to the class.) Occasionally, students earn “No Homework Coupons,” which may be used on Monday through Thursday assignments only unless otherwise stated. “No Homework Coupons” may NOT be used for the Week in Review as we like to have all students reflect on their weekly learning.

If a child is not responsibly completing homework assignments, a special form is used which must be checked and signed daily by us and signed nightly or weekly by an adult at home. With help from home, we hope to aid the child in staying on task and developing better management and organization skills.

We will be in touch when problem areas develop in your child’s studies. Don’t be surprised to receive a call or note for good news as well! Please contact us when questions arise on your part–we want to keep the lines of communication open at all times. (Feel free to email us. It is a great way to keep in touch.)
