PowerPoint - Getting Started - a beginners guide to PowerPoint

So you’ve never used PowerPoint in your life? And, you’re (secretly) afraid to use PowerPoint with your students. “What if I mess up, too much to learn” .. THINK AGAIN! Experience your first PowerPoint together, you and your students. Use it to present and share your next research unit with other classrooms, with friends and family, in- and outside the school, digitally or in paper format. Sky is the limit.

Keep it simple at first, start with the basics and take it from there. Even the biggest resisters among your students will soon soar and be on “auto pilot” discovering more bells and whistles than they will ever need or should use to get their message across - guaranteed! Check with Janine Pennel, this is exactly what happened with her 5th graders and their US States research & presentation project. Ask Judy Harris, she had to “tone down” just about every PowerPoint created - the kids really got into it but went over the edge with flying text and other custom animations! At the end, it was a great PowerPoint adventure for everyone, teachers AND students. Take a look at  Oscar’s PowerPoint presentation, click on Washington PowerPoint. Pretty terrific for a first, wouldn’t you agree?

So, shed those fears of failure and plunge into the PowerPoint unkowns yourself! Pick a topic, click  on the blue “PowerPoint - Getting Started” link at the top, follow the steps and start playing. Before you know it you will start playing with the bells & whistles … guaranteed!
