The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University
Chapter 104 students in grades 2-8 have the opportunity to participate in Johns Hopkins University’s Talent Search. This program is sponsored annually by the Center for Talented Youth (CTY). The purpose of the Talent Search is to identify, assess, and recognize the academic abilities of highly able students. To qualify for the Talent Search a student must score in the 95th percentile or higher on the reasoning section of a nationally normed test (the NWEA in Portland) and/or receive a score of an “Exceeds” on the MEA. Qualified students then take a test sponsored by CTY or the SAT exam if they are in seventh or eighth grade. High achieving students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs sponsored by CTY at Johns Hopkins. For more information about the talent search, check the CTY web site at www.cty.jhu.edu or phone 410-735-6278.

Students are strongly encouraged to submit all kinds of writing to the Chapter 104 blogs! Not sure what to contribute? Well, there’s a teen blog with topics of interest for middle school and high school writers, a kids blog for book reviews, and a “greenkids” blog for environmental tips, information, and opinions. Any student at any school can submit work. Email it to ivyr at portlandschools.org. Check back often for new content.
Parents, leave us a comment! Let us know what you think and suggest other topics, books or resources.
Thanks!

Be sure to check out the new look of our readers’ blog, KIDS READ. New reviews are posted frequently and can be submitted by email to ivyr at portlandschools.org for possible posting. The editors are fifth graders at Longfellow School and contributors have included students from Clifford, Presumpscot, Lyseth and Reiche Schools as well (so far!).
the link is blogs.portlandschools.org
We also have a new blog dedicated to environmental information, comments, and concerns. Students from Lyseth, Longfellow, Presumpscot, Reiche and Clifford schools are in the process of reading, gathering information, and discussing ideas for a magazine publication this spring. These students will be posting and sharing their thoughts and opinions as they get ready to write and publish Spotlight Goes Green, which is now the working title. Look for it before the end of the school year and check back for updates here and at: blogs.portlandschools.org
Your comments and ideas are welcome on both blogs and we enjoy reading them
