I have been taking a course called Web2.0 and it is getting me excited about the technology possibilities at Lincoln. One of the sessions was on podcasting and part of my assignment was to look at some podcasts. Here is just one that I looked at.

I would like to team up with a language arts teacher and have students podcast about their books. Wouldn’t that be more enjoyable than reading book reviews? Students could even use a picture of themselves reading the book to go with the podcast!

OK, Lincoln 2008/2009. Let’s do it! Any students want to podcast over the summer?

If you haven’t read The Greatest Stories Never Told by Rick Beyer you are not alone. I found this book buried in the non-fiction section (of course, that is right where it was supposed to be). It is a collection of stories that are real tales from history to “astonish, bewilder, and stupefy.” Lots of interesting facts about history that you won’t learn in Social Studies!

Right now I am reading a book called Sold by Patricia McCormick.

Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!: Voices from a Medieval Village by Laura Amy Schlitz received the John Newbery Award for children’s literature. It is a wonderful collection of stories and poems about about life in a thirteenth century manor.

I have to admit, some of the latest awards I don’t get excited about. This one deserved the medal. Life in the medieval world comes alive as members of the community such as the miller’s son, the merchant’s daughter, the nephew of the lord tell their stories. Included are interesting pages that contain more background information.

Be one of the first to read the latest Newbery Award or Newbery Honor book.

The Library sponsored an Earth Day Poetry contest and we had over 200 entries!!!!

Wow, what talented students we have at Lincoln.

First Place Winner is Wasita Mahaphanit with her free verse poem Mother Earth.  Second place winner is Abukar Adan with his rap poem.

The book is Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan.

Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Caouette will be posting dates for the book group that will be held in the library after school.
