The students have been taking a test on phase one from the Mathscapes book.  This phase is all about finding the best deal when you are shopping.  Example: If you buy the more expensive chips vs the “no-ad” kind, how much would you save in one week, month, and year?

The students have finished reading The Outsiders!!  We watched the movie last week to celebrate.  The students appeared to enjoy it.  This week we are working on a brochure on The Outsiders as part of a formal assessment.

The students are figuring out the best buy when buying items.  Example: Is it best to buy 4 12-packs of Coke for $3.50 each or 2 24-packs of Coke for $6.50 each?  The students are working on lots of “real world” math problems.

The students are working on their graphing project that will be due on Friday, October 17th.  They need to interview 20 people about their favorite ?.  It can be anything:  favorite food, singer, music, ice cream, etc.  They need to take this data and turn it into a bar graph and a circle graph.

Today the students read about “the rumble” in The Outsiders.  This was a very exciting part in the story.  Tomorrow-Friday the students will be working on their persuasive essays.  They will be due Friday, October 17th.

The students learned how to make circle graphs today.  Tomorrow we will continue making circle graphs.  I will be assigning a graphic project on Friday to be due later next week.

The students read The Outsiders today.  For homework they are writing a letter to the character.  This is due Th 10/9.  We will be working on the annual writing prompts later this week.

Today we focused on writing strong, catchy leads for our persuasive essays.  We also hit a climactic moment in The Outsiders (the fire in the church!).  Some students still owe reading logs.
