October 2007: We are learning about the Food Guide Pyramid and learning about food and healthy eating choices. When we become food and nutrition experts, we will be creating a Healthy Foods ‘Non’ Cookbook, full of nutritious recipes for kids to make (and eat) on their own, without cooking.

November 15, 2007: Students just finished creating their Food Pyramids (drawn to scale and illustrated with pictures of the foods that belong in each group). Now they are working on learning portion sizes for each food.

February 29, 2008: Mrs. Anzora has just returned from maternity leave and we are FINALLY able to get started on creating our cookbooks! While she was home with her brand-new daughter, Kathryn, students worked with Ms. Hawkins to create Nutrient Board Games using their extensive knowledge about foods and their nutrients. Now we are just starting on our cookbook project, students are designing their cookbook covers and thinking of recipes that they can present and possibly share with the class.

April 1, 2008  Students have chosen the recipes that they want to share, and have spent the last few classes creating a recipe page and a recipe poster to share with the class.  Students will start presenting their recipes to the class on Thursday.  Each student has a different day that he/she will present (listed below).  After he/she presents (and shares samples of his/her food, if desired- an optional extra credit part of the project), the other students in  the class will make a copy of that student’s recipe to keep in his/her own cookbook.

List of students and the dates each is scheduled to present his/her recipe to the class (remember- food is optional, but presenting and explaining the recipe to the class is required):

April 3- Evan
April 7- Michael
April 9- Eric D.
April 11- Aidan
