Topic: When should the death penalty be used as a punishment?

I think it should be for people who have killed people! But not for anything else then that. If they dont know if the person did kill anyone then no they should be sent to the death penalty

I think that the death penalty should only be used when the person who has killed someone is refusing to be arrested! Also if they keep killing people. Those are the only reasons why the death penalty should be used

I would like to agree with David - the question assumes that death penalty should be used in the first place - it basically asks that since it’s okay to kill people, when should we use it? I think it’s wrong. The question should be whether death penalty is acceptable in the first place, and if people think it is then you can ask when they think it’s okay to kill people.
You may guess that I don’t support death penalty. I think there are other ways to deal with it - more complex, yet more healing. Someone who “deserves” to be killed has obviously done something wrong - or is believe to be guilty of it (sometimes it’s hard to prove one way or another). Could we say that someone who commits murder with his/her own hands is as guilty as someone who sends troops to kill and be killed, and commit all sorts of crime just to save themselves? I am getting quite political here, but this is a very very sensitive and divisive question, so a comment like this is to be expected.
I think that it’s important to make those who commit crime understand what they have done, and then help them atone their crime by doing things they have not done before - helping people, showing empathy, breaking down that wall that makes them think they didn’t do anything wrong, and that the victim surely deserved it.
Besides, there are deaths due to neglect (like babies left sleeping in the car and who thus die from heat and dehydration) - where on the scale is this crime? Should the devastated mother be killed for this? Is she also a victim or a heartless cold-blooded murderer? A very difficult question you asked.

Just because someone raped or killed someone doesn’t mean they deserve to die. Yes, they should be locked up for a very, very long time, but they should get a second chance to redeem themselves.

I think the death penalty should be used when somone kills another person, or attempts to kill another. I mean, justice has to be served, right? Not killing someone who killed another person isn’t justice. I mean, who’s to say he’s not gonna break out of prison and do it again? It’s the only way to be sure that people are safe from him. Even if he attempts to kill someone, he still should be on death row.

I think that peoople should not have to EVER use the death penalty. I do however think that they should have to wear a letter standing for what they did(”m” as in murderer).That way everyone knows what they did. If they don’t wear it, then they should go to the death penalty.

I think the death penelty should be used when they commit hommiside or murder because that person could kill more people if he/she isn’t stoped. So David what i am saying is that is it better to lose 2 lives than 3 or more.

I agree with Felix. How do you break out of prison alone? And FYI, Anthony, Azkaban IS on an island, and people have broken out, but it’s not real kid! It’s in Harry Potter. You need to separate fiction from reality before you go making comments like “They ALL deserve to die if they kill or attempt to kill some one!!!!”

If you murdered someone by accident, say you were cutting birthday cake and they ran into the knife you were holding, would YOU want to be killed? Death penalty should only be used as punishment if the person keeps committing these crimes.

I think the death penalty should be used when someone has killed someone on purpose. If someone killed another person on accident like some person tried to kill them and they self-defensed and killed them, I don’t think that’s when the death penalty is used.

oh yeah who ever tim is your wrong, if you let them free to roam then they might do it again without punishment then who knows they might do it again
its best to keep them in jail or let everybody know what they did so that they can stay far away from the person.

I think that the death penalty should be used for murder, attempted murder, rape/ sexual abuse and or HARDCORE theft. Anyway I think that death penalty should only be execution by weapon or ELECTRIC CHAIR. Injection of poison or stabbing is unorthodox. That’s all I have to say on the subject thank you for listening, and I hope you do not have a run in with a death penalty.

I think that the death penalty should be enforced for any criminal. I think this because if you get sent to jail, you deserve to die. That may sound harsh or sadistic but I stand by my word and I will debate, argue and fight verbally with anyone who disagrees.

I think that the dealth penalty should only be used if you have done so many hanus crimes that it has gotten out of hand. So then that person should die. Hey guy’s since when shouldn’t the death penalty be used. That is really weird. Guy’s we’re acting like a bunch of kindergardeners that is just wrong we’re in the seventh grade! Act like it people! Plus it should be used like when someone has killed someone and then they have refused to get arrested. That is just plain it. That is the only reason why it should be used. So guy’s stop acting like little kids. We are seventh graders start acting like it. That is the only thing I need to say about the subgect.

This is a little weird we’re still debating on when the death penalty should be used. Man if I had a penny for every time someone said that the death penalty shouldn’t be used than I would be a very rich kid. Still this is kinda low for a bunch of seventh graders we shouldn’t even be debating about this stuff. For those of you still debating this one I think your pretty brave

If you watched the news, Jan. 26, 2008, there was a man who raped and sexually hurt people. he went to jail for a very very long time and they released him. He isn’t living in his house, he is in a hospital/rehab place where he won’t be able to hurt anyone. They did not kill him. What makes people think we can kill teens. They can change. Older people have a harder time changing their ways because they are used to their routine. Teens don’t have a routine schedule at this point in their life.
Because teens do some bad things doesn’t mean we have the right to kill them. My only question is: Why do WE as people, have to think about killing teens and anyone, for things that could be fixed? They may have a disease that could cause them to act that way, they may have been bullied in their life, their parents might hurt them or them might just have issues.
