November 7, 2007 at 3:37 pm | In Curriculum Sharing, Minutes |

Summary

Val, Dave B., Dave N., Diane, and Jess (Diane’s intern) met with Bob Bettencourt to plan the combined PhotoShop course.

The course will take place in early December. Val, Dave B. and Diane will combine classes, with Dave and Diane’s students in 321 and Val’s students in 320. We will open the door between the rooms. Dave Nichols’s students will have their own section in the Graphic Arts classroom.

Goals of the project:

  • students understand the principles of good design

  • Class goals

Graphic Arts & Printing: scanning, image processing, importing graphics into PhotoShop / placing in InDesign. A few students are creating in PhotoShop. Expectation: could we set up a sheet step-by-step of what the kids would need to do a basic graphic in PhotoShop for print.

    Commercial Art: nothing specific

Video Tech: varying levels of PhotoShop proficiency.

Web Programming: logo work would be great.

Bob: big marketing “package” for PATHS. Goal: go to School Board and hand them a package. Video, music, brochures, posters, T shirt, temporary tattoos…everything to do with branding a school.

In reality, that’s probably too big a project to do the first time. Let’s simplify.

Past years: simple projects making a logo. Basic design principles. Playing with the program to put themselves into another photo.
Give kids parameters instead of leaving it wide open. Maybe give them a set of backgrounds, images that they can use.

    Class numbers:
    Video: 17, 15
    Graphic: 14, 9
    Web: 13, 6
    Art: 8, 14

Maybe start by taking the classes individually because of numbers. Then we can group students together. Also, could open the door between 320 and 321 if we need to walk back and forth and have kids in both rooms.

Sticky notes for “parking lot” issues for that day
Graphic and Web can use their own labs; Art and Video need to use 321.
Dave B. will check 321 availability. Beginning of December.
Val, Diane, and Dave B. will combine classes and open the door between 320 and 321.
Shared files will live on the EOS server.

Think about what we’re going to call the project, get kids thinking about logos, etc. And define what the end result is. How will these things be used? How are they related to our classes?
    - design principles
    - working knowledge of PhotoShop

Think about standardizing on design terminology!
