May 2, 2007 at 1:10 pm | In Minutes |Summary:
Meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
Next meeting: Monday, 5/7 at 1:40 in the Music Room, to discuss PATHSFEST.
The minimum amount of work that should be submitted, per student, for the HOME project is one page worth of writing. The writing can be the project, or it can be about the project or about a student’s experience with the project.
Next week: iron out who is sharing at PATHSFEST and how. We need to know how to schedule PATHSFEST performance time.
How best to award credit? See bottom of document.
Present:

Full Notes (paraphrased):
The minimum amount of work that should be submitted, per student, for the HOME project is one page worth of writing. The writing can be the project, or it can be about the project or about a student’s experience with the project.
Some students don’t want to share at PATHSFEST but are working on a performance piece. Could we videotape some projects that require a live performance?
Di: next year, we should approach the students in the Fall or in January with the idea of the project. It’s really hard to get them into it at this time of year.
Kids who are migrating to other classes seem very energetic and excited.
Next time we do this, we need migration info: a sheet with the name of the student, which class the student is migrating to, what time, info. about the project. Otherwise it’s too hard to keep track of kids.
Next week: iron out who is sharing at PATHSFEST and how. We need to know how to schedule PATHSFEST performance time.
We got into a discussion about whether we should ask student volunteers to share anything at the next hallway meeting? There are reasons to do it: kids hear other about other projects, get excited about the project. There are also reasons not to do it: lots of students are negative, and that’s a hard environment to share in.
We also discussed how to award credit for projects, and what to do about kids who do the bare minimum vs. kids who reall work. There were some different ideas (extra credit for kids who do more, daily participation grades). We are sticking to the minimum of one page of writing.
