Full Notes (paraphrased):

We had originally planned to discuss the Snack Shack, but since Dana, Bo and John were able to attend, we began the meeting by discussing the HOME proposal that Vicky, Phil and Lisa wrote. Dana fully supports it and says go ahead and secure the money from L.I.T. The proposal asks for $2500 from L.I.T. to cover Lisa DiFranza’s pay ($1500), teacher release time beyond the scheduled development time ($500), and materials costs ($500). There is enough money in the L.I.T. budget for this; John will check with all L.I.T. members tomorrow to make sure everyone agrees that we can have this money.

Vicky noted that in the future we wouldn’t need to bring in an outside facilitator/leader/guest artist to lead us in group projects. We hope to learn from Lisa DiFranza this time so that next time we can all help lead a project of this type.

Dana said that the $500 for professional development release time, beyond the Wednesday time, sounds fine. We will have to be creative about getting subs, or schedule the additional time after school. Phil noted that we should talk with Lisa DiFranza about how best to use the release time.

We discussed the possibility of having a "working lunch" on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 so that we could have 2 hours of planning time for the HOME project on those days.

Short discussion about the name "PATHSFest". Dana supports it and was thinking of a title like "Celebration of Learning". All agreed that "PATHSFest: A Celebration of Learning" would more accurately represent what we want PATHSFest to be (i.e., not just a big party for PATHS). It would really help us if Dana could talk up PATHSFest so that all staff would participate, but Dana is feeling pressure about the budget and about the semester idea that’s being floated, so this may not happen.

Do we want to take on the Snack Shack along with the HOME project? Most of the work would fall on Phil and his class, once it is initially set up. He needs to think about whether he could do it. How important is it to us? We decided to do it if Phil is able to. He distributed a sample price list. On Monday he will tell us what he needs from us if we are to run the Monday Snack Shack.

Jane mentioned that she has received a $1000 grant through Service Learning to create a school store.

On Monday we will discuss:

  • Snack Shack details: what Phil would need from us
  • how much class time can each of our classes spend per week on the HOME project?
  • how we should schedule Bo so that he can be involved in the HOME project
