Summary:

Next meeting: Thursday, December 10th @ 1:40 p.m. in the Music room.

Please see full notes.

Full Notes (paraphrased):

Friday’s music performance is "sold out" in the A.M. Vicky only has space in the P.M. concert.

Elizabeth presented her starting point for a mission statement. We will look at this a little later. We started working on our "elevator speech".

What we want in an elevator speech:

  • getting away from “vocational”
  • where kids will go afterwards
  • creative economy

Brainstorming:

developing a collaborative model of education in the visual and performing arts

cross-curriculum

combined curriculum

themed curriculum

artists in residence, professionals into the classroom

brining real-world into classroom

developing a real-world model of educaation in the arts with the creative process as the core

creative process is at the core

what is creative process?

what is important for supporting it?

drawing connections between many different areas

allowing students to explore, problem solve, and draw connections in an interdisciplinary environment

problem solving: society needs those kind of creative, connection-oriented problem-solving skills

social skills, communications skills

model for rest of PATHS

"Doing School Differently" — another opportunity for Portland students

"intensive" experience: how do we portray the great stuff here without the "vocational" word? Or with it?

"education going right" kids get involved & excited
