Full Notes (paraphrased):
Friday’s music performance is "sold out" in the A.M. Vicky only has space in the P.M. concert.
Elizabeth presented her starting point for a mission statement. We will look at this a little later. We started working on our "elevator speech".
What we want in an elevator speech:
- getting away from “vocational”
- where kids will go afterwards
- creative economy
Brainstorming:
developing a collaborative model of education in the visual and performing arts
cross-curriculum
combined curriculum
themed curriculum
artists in residence, professionals into the classroom
brining real-world into classroom
developing a real-world model of educaation in the arts with the creative process as the core
creative process is at the core
what is creative process?
what is important for supporting it?
drawing connections between many different areas
allowing students to explore, problem solve, and draw connections in an interdisciplinary environment
problem solving: society needs those kind of creative, connection-oriented problem-solving skills
social skills, communications skills
model for rest of PATHS
"Doing School Differently" — another opportunity for Portland students
"intensive" experience: how do we portray the great stuff here without the "vocational" word? Or with it?
"education going right" kids get involved & excited
