Whose life is it anyway?
May 7th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Euthanasia should be legal. I believe that if a person wants to die, they have the right to. That’s why there is such thing as suicide. I do think though, that there should be strict laws regarding the matter. The elderly should have the right to say, “Pull the plug,” or give their family the right.
I don’t see why it shouldn’t be legal. Your life is your life. And if a doctor won’t help you die, then you can do it yourself. I think that this entire topic has a lot of pros and cons tied into it.
Dying is part of living. We all know that. If you don’t know that than you’re extremely naive. I also think that if a patient at a hospital is suffering more than they should be, and they know that they won’t be cured of their illness than euthanasia should be an option. I don’t think I can agree with people who make euthanasia illegal just because they wouldn’t do it themselves. I think that we all need to think of what’s good for mankind. Not be so self-centered and say NO! because you think it’s a repulsive suggestion.
In my religion euthanasia is frowned upon. God takes you when it’s your time. You’re messing with fate if you are pro-euthanasia. But what if that’s how YOU were meant to die? What if that’s what God or fate, or Buddha or Allah intended?
You never know. And personally this topic is a pretty good one to discuss.

Yes, If they are in pain, suffering, and need to be put out of pain. I think that it should be. But with more than just an “Okay kill me.” I think that they should have more than one person saying that it’s ok. I think that doctors should see that these people that need this done are SUFFERING! They had a life, why have the rest of it suffering?

Erika you should know that no one is going to read your comments if the are too long.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Bridget you should know that I don’t mind.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Yes it should be legal. If you are old and dieing in a bed, then you should be able to end the pain.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:21 am
hah, birdget thats true. Erika, make your comments shorter please.
I think that if someone is in pain to the extent that they are miserable, and just want to be put out of their misery. But I don’t think that it should be allowed to give someone lethal injection if the person goes to the docter because they think they feel depressed because their girlfriend or boyfriend left them, or they’re in a huge fight with someone very close to them and just want to end their life because they can’t handle the it all.

I think it should be legal because it’s definitely the safest, and neatest way to do it. If the person just goes home and kills themselves in some horrible, nasty way, there’s a big thing about if it was murder or suicide, it upsets people when they come home and someone they know is dead. Or if the family doesn’t hear from them in weeks and they have no idea what happened. Or it traumatizes people when someone jumps of a bridge or tall building. With doctor assisted suicide, it’s clean and there is no mystery about what happened.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Nobody is disagreeing. I think assisted suicide should be a matter between patient and doctor alone and that government should not regulate the practice. If I was one of those pretend doctors, I would take out a gun and splatter your brains on the wall. Not that i’d do that, but tell me will that be a great form of doctor assisted suicide. I mean you both agreed to your assassination but you didn’t know how your life would end.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:09 am
I think that it should be legal. If they’re really suffering and they CHOOSE to want to end their life, it should be legal for the doctor to help. It would probably be much less painful.
May 8th, 2008 at 10:39 am
If the guy wants to die then they should die with the assist of a doctor unless its tupac
May 8th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Tu-pac R-I-P
If a person wants to die they should have the right to do so
Yahh Digg
May 8th, 2008 at 11:13 am
I think it should be legal because some people are so sick that their in pain and can’t stand it. If the doctors say that this person isn’t going to make it that person should have the chose if they want to die.
May 8th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I agree with Erika if the person is in pain they should of the right and choice to have their life ended. The persons famliy should also be involved with the descion. Though I think that when its a person’s time its their time. Just because people say they died from this and that. It doesn’t matter, what if it God’s intentions for that person’s time to be up. Also realize Erika that the word Allah Swt. Simply just means god its the arabic word for God.

It is legal to have a doctor, and that your in pain and you want to know if your be alright and having a doctor tell you that your not going to make it. “It’s happen to my dad before and I didn’t like it.”
May 8th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I agree with everyone in favor of erika; it shoul be up to the person who wants to be put down. If the person wants to be put becuase of depression they should get free therepy from the state before making there final decision.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
i actually know someone who is suffering from depression, and he was thinking of suicide, but he went through therepy and now he is back to not wanting to commit suicide.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Ben:
People aren’t assisted in suicide by doctors because of depression.
People are put down (so to speak) by doctors because they are terminally ill.
If the person is a vegetable in a hospital bed, and has been braindead for God knows how long, then what’s the point in keeping up life support?
This uses physician’s valuable time, along with tons and tons of electricity, and who knows how long they’re going to have a faint pulse?
It could be twenty years!
If I were to be in a car accident, per se, and declared braindead, I would no longer be considered a functioning, contributing member of society.
This may sound harsh, but if I was no longer able to either contribute, function, or live a life, I’m pretty sure I’d want to be done away with.
It’s the person’s choice.

Jordan:
WHAT?
May 8th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
suicide shouldn’t be legal.
if i wanted to die, then i would die.
im not gonna ask permission
May 8th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
I think that if you have a disease and you are going to die anyway, you should be able to have a doctor peacefully put you down. I don’t think that anyone should be able to walk into a hospital and have a doctor kill you. If you don’t have a good reason to die earlier, then you shouldn’t be able have an assisted suicide.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:03 am
jordan: what!?
May 9th, 2008 at 11:11 am
Jordan, having a doctor is obviously legal.
It’s a right that can’t be taken away.
Proof read please.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:41 am
If the person is no longer a functioning, contributing member of society, then away with them.
This may sound caustic, and malicious even for me, but…
If you put some real thought into it, would you want to be kept alive for years well after the point at which you should have died?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:05 am
yep. and death is part of life.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Doctor Assisted Suicide should be 100% legal.
I don’t see anything wrong with people choosing when they die. It is however different from suicide. This option should only be utilized if and when this person is suffering of a medical cause. Like when they are on their death beds.
Your life means you do what you want with it, and even death.
And Erika brought up an excellent point for those of you who are religious. Taking life is a sin, but what if that was the “higher power” ’s plan for you?
Legalize.
May 13th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
I think that doctor assisted suicide should be legal. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with someone wanting to die. Like Erika’s first comment said “I believe that if a person wants to die, they have the right to. That’s why there is such thing as suicide.” If someone wants to die then they should be able to die. I think that if the certain person’s doctor or doctor’s wouldn’t do the process on them, then the person could just do it themselves. I know everyone mostly doesn’t like hearing the word “suicide” but it is a reality and it is happening obviously in today’s world. Yes Taylor and Erika, I do agree with your point on the religion aspect.
May 15th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
i agree with Alex if someone wants to die fats then they should have the right

I think that it should be legal to preforme doctor assisted suicide. I think that it is your own personal choice. personaly I would want to keep living untill I die by somthing or somone. I wouldn’t want to take my own life or give somone permission to take it. I do beleive that people have the choice to do it though. I think they should have somone try to talk them out of it beforehand, but if they are really hurting and just want to die I think it can be done. I do not think it is ok to pull the plug on somone in a coma. The only way that should be done is if they had wrote somthing beforehand that said that if they were ever in a coma for a certain amount of time they should pull the plug.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
thank you kaitlin.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
@Kaitlin:
What if the person in a coma is too young to have written consent to be put down? What if they were mentally retarded, legally insane, or had some other disorder which prevented them from thinking clearly?
Then it becomes a moral issue.
Personally, I believe that if a person is in a coma for a certain amount of time, they should be put down, regardless of whether they are documentedly sane.

I meant Keanan, not Kailtin.
Sorry about that.
