I do think that the government should be able to limit the number of guns a person can buy. For one, people shouldn’t be walking down the street with guns in their pockets. There is no point to that, and the only purpose of keeping a gun on you is for “protection”. Unfortunately there are more injuries to those who carry guns because they are more prone to accidents. The purpose of the Second Amendment was originally for the MILITIAS!!! But guess what, we’ve done away with them, so technically speaking, the Second Amendment has no meaning. I don’t think the Founding Fathers thought that people would be walking down the street with a concealed AK-47.
Carrying weapons is advertising violence. Violence in society today is becoming more common, and that’s an issue. All the media and news is focusing on is warfare, and most video games focus on warfare too. How’s that for growing up American? The bigger the better, the more violent the more views. I am ashamed to grow up in such a place.
If only the US was like Norway, then everything would be GREAT(:

I don’ t think that The Right to Bare Arms is something that should continue to be protected in the constitution. If guns can kill people what is the point of having one despite protecting ourselves. I do believe that The Right to Bare Arms has gone too far and should be stopped. How many times do you think a gun is shot in one day? Plenty I am sure.

Well, yes Francis, guns are shot many times a day. HELLO!!!!!! What do you think we do in Iraq? I’m not suggesting that we should do away with the WHOLE Second Amendment, I’m just suggesting that we start militias again, because now the whole purpose of the Second Amendment is so we can walk around and shoot each other, when the purpose of the Bill of Rights was to protect US from the GOVERNMENT.

Ok I was allitle bit of topic but now back on topic. I say guns should only be allowed by police officers on patrol and on land that is privately owned by the wielder of said gun.
It should be like Japan. Only samurai’s can carry weapons. That’s what it should be like with the police and army.
Guns, are for the weak, people who need them to kill are not strong enough to fell the real pain in killing or the truth of violence. Guns are only use is to cause more destruction.

Hand to hand combat is way more effective and deaths that are caused by guns can be reduced by combat. Try watching the matrix and yes I can dodge bullets too. I do martial arts and coming from my view its pretty harsh.

Konzo, that’s the ideal, yet its unrealistic!!! I don’t think many modern day soldiers would want to participate in a war that was solely fought with hand to hand combat!
I’m sorry, but guns are made because they are easy to use. Their purpose is clear and its easy for a soldier to fight with. Deaths could occur at the same number with hand to hand combat. You know that.

I think that if we don’t use guns, that other people will, and we will have a severe disadvantage. I don’t see any other way to match a fire arm than with a fire arm. It doesn’t matter how trained you are in karate or whatever, you don’t have a chance against a bullet… or bullets

I think that the Second Amendment should be protected to a certain extent. Our country was established with help from the Bill of Rights, and has flourished as the most powerful country in the world for a very long time. Inarguably, this Bill of Rights should be respected.
The Second Amendment should stay the way it is.
Maybe more people need to try to view the Right to Bear Arms in a straightforward manner (without trying to twist it for their own benefit), and with the same inclination as our founding fathers.

Listen, I think that the 2nd amendment was never intended to be made so that people can own guns. I believe in hunting but I don’t think people should be owning guns for their own needs. Why don’t they just make a place where all guns can be kept for certain state and used when needed. If a person owns a gun it will be alright with me as long as they lock it in a safe place where they only have access to. I think that the Right To Bear Arms should not be given out to ordinary folks. I think this because I think that many people are taking advantage of the fact that having guns is legal. Many people are using guns that are obviously not necessary to use. I believe that the Right to Bare Arms has gone too far. I think that the law has let was too many things to happen. Like Mr. Clifford said “even though there’s a certain speed limit in certain areas, it doesn’t mean that everyone is going to follow the rules.” This has a lot to do with guns. I believe that even if we made it so the amount of guns should be limited than that probably wouldn’t work. I think that only officials, and the state, or U.S. organizations should own guns.

Gangs exist in 3,300 cities across the United States (essentially), with a multiplying population of more than 250,000 people. There would have to be a very large number of police officers trying to confide gang members to lose their guns and go back to material arts. To me that’s not going to happen at all, or not anytime soon.

I think that owning guns should be illegal. Guns are for killing people, right? So if murder is a crime, shouldn’t owning a gun be a crime? People say they need guns as a defense if they live in a dangerous area, but if guns were illegal to own, no one would be in danger. Hunting guns are a different story, and someone is going to know if someone else is carrying a rifle, but regular handgun purchasing should definitely be illegal.

Alex T. everyone has the right to own guns, it says so on our Bill of Rights, we can’t just revoke guns now because we think certain people could be dangerous with guns. I personally don’t agree with owning them, but I think that people who feel the need to own them, have the right to.
Will, I also see what you happen to be saying, yet we need to keep in mind, if we were to take away guns that would cause major controversy, the last thing this nation needs right now. I think if we keep it as it is, and improve it in a little while, it might be a bit easier for the US to control its people. The government has no right to revoke our weapons. Children ARE taught at a young age about the dangers of firearms.
The problem with this is that kids grow up CURIOUS about guns, just like kids will grow up CURIOUS about drugs.
I’m not saying that we SHOULDN’T teach at a young age, but only if there was some way we could do it so that they could actually comprehend it.
Our generation needs a little sense kicked into them.

I really have a problem with the argument that says that all guns have to be eliminated from the United States. Do you even read what you write? It is ridiculous. How could we completely eliminate guns from this culture? You expect a political leader to stand up and say that all guns will be eliminated from the United States. Are you aware how many votes he would lose? He’s be called unpatriotic, people would say he doesn’t respect Even if a politician does do you think people will forget how to make guns? It is so impractical. Selling drugs is ILLEGAL! Do people still sell drugs? As much as I would love a gun free world, forget it, it will NEVER happen

Alexis what do you mean by PRETENT? Do you mean pretend anyway you guys should stop flaming topics. Demitrius you can say that guns are their for our protection. Who are all these gun owners? Are they the uneducated poor, left behind? Even if somehow it turns out they have the same level of formal education as nongun owners, on average it wouldn’t been an excuse for violence. Guns are expensive and, if you plan on actually shooting the things, ammo costs add up fast (unless you make your own), plus it costs to go to the range. Owning a gun is a lot like owning a purebred pet: it’s fun, but it isn’t a hobby for the impoverished.

I think that making all guns illegal would be impossible. I just think that they should check up on the people they sell the guns to a little bit more. Maybe checking their mental health history or criminal records. I don’t think gun sellers should just be in it for the money. I think it would be illogical and as i said, impossible to ban all guns. People would just be wasting their time trying.

obviously this generation needs some sense kicked into them.
but they aren’t going to bring guns into school to show them how dangerous they are. Teachers need to show them in a way that won’t scare them. If kids get the message that guns are completely wrong and can’t be used in a protective and safe way, they will live in fear and it will take them a long time to get over it. Guns can be and should be used in a protective way. That’s what children should learn. On the other hand, they should see what guns can do… possibly by movie or visual. It needs to be balanced.

And those who buy handguns for protection are four times more likely to have those guns wind up killing a family member or a close friend than they are to have the guns protect anyone, I hope you don’t get on that list Sofi. Instead of really coming together, we build fences; we become prisoners in our homes, with one or more guns to protect us.
I say the techniques I learn for combating are appropriate because they require no special equipment, just their hands and quick minds.
This teaches me how to defend without hurting myself or the attacker. BEAT THAT!!

I think the right to bear arms should not be a bad thing. Sure, if some one brakes in to your house and you have a gun and they steel it thats a bad thing. But guns sometimes help family sleep good at night knowing that they’re safe.
